Owned by the Australian Property Development company Stockland, Picadilly Shopping Centre is located in the retail precinct of Sydney CBD. With development in housing, shopping centres, logistics, and workplace sites, Stockland brings over 70 years’ experience to the property development market.
Offering over 35 specialty stores across 2985sqm of leasable space, the Stockland Piccadilly site is situated in Sydney’s business CBD and provides a wide range of shopping opportunities and amenities. Situated a short walk from St James, Town Hall, and Martin Place train stations, the shopping centre provides additional parking and easy access to bus services.
Requiring an updated radio system to facilitate communication between centre management, security teams, and cleaning staff, Stockland Piccadilly contacted National Wireless. This communication system would require personalised channels to prevent cross-communication in the busy Sydney environment, customised voice alerts to identify team operations, and lightweight, professionally profiled handheld walkie talkies for customer facing operations.
A dedicated repeater box would need to be installed due to the height and materials of the building. Antenna installations would need to be made at the centre’s roof to ensure reliable communications. Accessible multi-unit charging setups would be needed to provide round-the-clock access to communications.
Having previously worked alongside Stockland shopping centre operations across NSW, National Wireless provided Stockland Piccadilly with a radio fleet consisting of 10 new Hytera radio models.
Upgrading from the Hytera PD682 to its replacement model the Hytera HP682, National Wireless installed a lightweight, IP67 radio fleet equipped with 1.8inch colour display screens. Customised voice alerts notify staff of the radios channel profile to ensure efficient communication. A Hytera 6-slot unit charger ensures ease of charging and guarantees radios are ready to last the full duration of shifts.
National Wireless designed a custom rack to hold the Hytera HR1062 Repeater installed at the site. Providing adjustable 5-50W power output, advanced security features to prevent eavesdropping, and enhanced coverage, the HR1062 comes with multiple connection features such as 2 ethernet ports, an accessory connector, a TX antenna connector, a RX antenna connector, and a monitor/tuning connector. A folded-dipole antenna was installed at the site to provide clear communication in the coverage-deterrent suburban environment and across the multiple stories of the building.
